Walls

The walls that I’ve built have served their purpose
There’s no need to cower from the danger outside
They’re sturdy and tall and thick and steadfast
Provided my small soul a safe place to hide

The time has passed so my weakness has left me
I’m putting doors and windows and flags in the wall
Ropes to climb on and colours to welcome
Inviting the lost souls to join in the ball

I trust that no one can touch me in this state of now
The wildlands surrounding will protect me enough
Rough forest and thicket for those charging devils
I know them by face from when things were rough

So come, do feel welcome in my humble palace
It’s warm and pleasant and there’s a spot for you
We’re dancing and drinking and talking and singing
Enjoy the wealth that was stuck in the queue

You traveled here on a whim, just a chance, just a joke
Stepping out of your own reinforced citadel
The roads you traveled I mapped out before
So take it in, and learn to live your future as well

I am an Amsterdam based writer, to whom poetry comes easiest. Love to explore storytelling, and how that works in real life as well. Curious about most things.
