Remember

Think of me when you see the moon shine bright and full
Wonder about where I’ll be flying through in your nights
Over mountains, deep in the world’s valleys, like we talked about.
Free, but always circling back to you, to our bed. Think of me

Don’t think about my uncontrolled tendency to swear
My clumsiness, ruthlessness, or that ugly sweater that I still loved
Don’t re-imagine my judging eyes aimed at my reflection
Please, in the night, only light memories, the day is for truth

In the sun, paint a flamboyant complete picture of our love story
Our memories feed the myriad of bright colored paints you can use.
Make people understand how our shimmering worked. We can,
Be an example from the moment the rooster crows until the first owl hoots

When the silence falls, Think of me, alone, when you walk home
When the day has trouble keeping it’s eyes open, and you dream
Remember how we tiptoe danced on these streetlight lit cobblestones.
Jumping to miss the lines between the stones, hushed giggles, kisses.

Don’t ever think for a moment you did anything wrong. Promise me
You are by far the brightest thing I had in my life, stronger even than our tide-turning moon
I love it that you smile with confidence while you tell our stories
The world owns you during the day, promise me that the nights are ours.

Promise me
You’ll think of me
Promise me

I am an Amsterdam based writer, to whom poetry comes easiest. Love to explore storytelling, and how that works in real life as well. Curious about most things.
